December 24, 2010 at 7:52 pm in reply to: 1969 1989 2009? Are We Due Another Summer of LOVE? #1196004
This is a good thread. To be timely and topical (kinda):
Some years ago (think this was a pre-millenium era speech (no, not Robbies’s)), some big-knob in the music industry (believe it was Alan McGee (sic) Creation Records, but am lazy with research) expounded a theory that the end of every decade produced a major ‘movement’ in popular culture with a new brand of music and associated drug inferences.
Ergo: (From memory rather than quoted)
Late 50s: ‘Teenager’ music (?) Uppers
Late ’60s: Acid and flower power
Late 70s: Glue (?) amphetamine and punk
Late 80s: Ecstasy and all that
Late 90s: Cocaine, ketamine and Indie
Late 00s: Oh people, what have we done?! All still retro and re-visiting; BGT (not) and Xfactory. Plant fertiliser, fish food and lawn-mower oil. Where’s the new effing wonder-drug, eh?
There’s still time; only 7 days to go. I think we should be able to come up with something. If we make the effort..
Rather lovely greetings! Merry Chrispystuff to all. I’m well looking forward to 2011. This for a start..

I listen to this just about every day at the moment. Never fails to cheer me right up.
Oh dear..hardly placebo, but then it’s not me feeling ill, right?

Lots of research available. Just a suggestion.
carrots or antibiotics? I just dont know.
No..?
Whilst I am at it, organic foods do not contain higher levels of vitamins.
Higher than what? Point wasn’t higher; more concentrated; less adulterated.
Anyway: I’m not on commission. Hope you feel better soon. 😉
What really sticks in the craw about this event is the sense of punishment administered by the police; the self-righteousness of the copper telling a protester that they couldn’t go home: there had been a breach of the peace. “Look, there’s been a lot of shouting and stuff and you’re all in detention”.
As Micheal Huing Thing says above: the police were not doing their proper job. Effectively, they punished the entire (published and lawful) march, because they failed to apprehend a tiny few obvious dissenters. Punishment is a matter for the courts and prosecution service. The police are there to uphold the law. (Once again) It would appear somebody didn’t get the memo.
I realise the above is probably stating the effing obvious but, if I was marching with fresh hopes and high ideals, this sort of behaviour would make me want to shout, weep and smash stuff up. The sheer injustice of ‘justice’. Where were all those ‘jolly-festival’ coppers at this massive PR opportunity? Waving a “My Daughter Goes To Uni Too!” placard with a cheery grin for the papers? Eh? Eh?
Disgusted,
South-East UkI would like to recommend (organic) carrot juice. Whilst I appreciate self-medicating is dubious with something serious like pneumonia, for anything bronchial, chesty or, hell, most damn pernicious, general system-type complaints, I cannot push this harmless panacea enough. Even if you’re not into health/wholefood, (organic) vegetable juices are a massive vitamin/mineral bang-up and carrot juice is acknowledged as the ‘king’ of the juices.
In the intervening space of the above paragraph, I have tried to write various testimonies and anecdotal stuff to back up this claim. Too varied and personal to really fit concisely here but: there is pure magic in this juice. One long draught for anyone with achey, chesty, smokey lung misery is pure healing that can be felt immediately.
I’m an habitual chain-smoker. Oh, I know it’s rotten, but just can’t help myself. Carrot juice not only clears my lungs immediately, it actually, perceptibly, alleviates the ‘feeling’ for the ‘need’ to smoke. Some phenomenom, even for me.
I hope this works for you. I wouldn’t post it if I wasn’t sure it would.
Indeed. Quite interesting watching the few police, in their shirtsleeves, with a dog on a lead, as the protesters attempt to storm the gates of Downing Street.
Mind you, a lot of controversy at the student protest about storming the crowd with horses. That’s not storming! This is storming..

Yeah, the 1994 Anti Criminal Justice Bill march was a good ‘un. Finished with a bit of a rave in Trafalgar Square. Loads more exit points too..

Ello,
Welcome to Party Vibe!
I am off to Glastonbury for the first time next year what shouldn’t I miss?
Well…standing at the Glade stage, in its shady corner of the Dance Field, with the Hare Krishna (free) food tent down the way, and the main stage arenas behind you, the real party zone is over there (*points*) at the end of the Old Railway Track. Designed and built by those who know, this leads to Arcadia, Shangri-la, Area 9 and stuff. Raves in crashed planes and abandoned buildings, rigs built into the set, parties until breaking..
Come the witching hour, or approximately 2340hrs, when the main stages finish, most of the site appears to heading for the late night vibe in this area; gets very, very crowded. You, however, can feel safe and secure in the knowledge that you blagged a top party perch ahead of the madding crowd.
Although I sound like a newly-minted convert, I’ve been going to Glastonbury for some years. Amazing how a festival can still amaze after many not-the-first times. And the sight of the site at night, when all the lights and fires and candles light up, is still one of the best natural highs I’ve ever known.
Enjoy yourself. 😎
Oh, and thanks to all for their greetings.
